How Can Parent
Coaching Help You?
A parent coach is a professional whose objective it is to help you
achieve your goals in creating a fulfilling life with your children.
Coaching may focus on one specific challenge or it may concentrate
on helping you become a generally more effective parent by improving
your parenting approach and skills.
Parent coaches know that their clients are the experts in their own
lives. As your coach, I will help you clarify what you want to
accomplish, set specific goals and make an effective action plan. It
is my job to provide you with structure, perspective and techniques
as we move through the coaching process together. It is also my job
to hold you accountable for making progress towards meeting the
goals you have set.
Parent coaching is educational and practical. Together we will
discover that you already know a great deal about creating a healthy
home life. And, in the occasional “need to know” moment, I will
provide you with information in a practical way, so that the
new concepts and skills become useable right away. Coaching is
designed to unlock and maximize your parenting potential.
Parent coaching is not therapy, but it is often therapeutic. Since
our focus will be on the present and on the future, we will not, as a
general rule, direct our attention to mistakes in the past .
However, an outcome of coaching is often that important healing does
take place.
The structure of coaching is flexible. We will design a coaching
arrangement that meets your individual needs and schedule. The basic
coaching design consists of an initial session to create a coaching
strategy followed by regular on-going coaching sessions either in
person or by phone. Coaching sessions are usually weekly, lasting
from 30 minutes to an hour. Coaching relationships generally last
from three weeks to several months. The nature of the goals and the
changes you wish to make will determine the length of time that
makes sense for you.
